Malfunction in the Plane at Altitude of 650 feet , High Level Committee will Investigate : R M Naidu

New Delhi: The Civil Aviation Ministry sharing a press conference today on the Ahmedabad plane crash said that ‘there was a malfunction in the plane at an altitude of 650 feet. The pilot had given an emergency call. The accident happened at 1:40 in the afternoon.’ Addressing media persons Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu said that the plane crashed two kilometers away from the airport. We came to know about the accident at two o’clock. While the fire was brought under control at 6 in the evening.

He said that a high-level committee has been formed to investigate this accident. We found the black box from the accident site yesterday evening (Friday) at 5 pm. Which is yet to be investigated. It may take some time to know the reason behind the accident.

The Minister said that High Level Multi-disciplinary Committee is constituted for examining the causes leading to the crash of the Air India Flight AI-171 from Ahmedabad to Gatwick Airport (London) on June 12, 2025.

According to him the Committee will examine the existing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and guidelines issued to prevent and handle such occurrences and suggest comprehensive guidelines for dealing with such instances in the future.

He also said that the Committee will not be a substitute to other enquiries being conducted by relevant organisations but will focus on formulating SOPs for preventing and handling such occurrences in the future.

Civil Aviation Ministry Secretary Samir Kumar Sinha said, “The plane took off at 1:39 pm. After reaching a height of about 650 feet, it started losing altitude. The pilot informed ATC about a complete emergency at 1:39 pm. He sId that according to ATC, when it tried to contact the plane, it did not get any response. After 1 minute, the plane crashed in Meghani Nagar, 2 km from the airport.

Before this accident, the plane had completed the flight from Paris to Delhi and Delhi to Ahmedabad without any incident. Due to the accident, the airport was closed at 2.30 pm. It was opened at 5 pm after completing all the protocols.”
