Iran Violated Strait of Hormuz Agreement, Must Face Consequences: White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt
New Delhi/Washington: The White House has accused Iran of violating a memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed with the United States, alleging that Tehran carried out attacks on commercial vessels passing through the strategically important Strait of Hormuz as International media reported .
According to media reports White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said that Iran is continuing discussions with the United States and has expressed a desire to reach an agreement, citing the heavy losses it has suffered due to US military actions.
Speaking about the recent developments, Leavitt said, “I spoke with the President about this just an hour ago. Iran is continuously engaging in talks with the United States and saying that they want to reach an agreement with us because they are suffering heavy losses from our U.S. military.”
She further alleged that the recent attacks in the region were a result of Iran breaching the commitments made under the MoU. According to Leavitt, the agreement specifically prohibited Iran from targeting commercial ships operating in the Strait of Hormuz,.
“Unfortunately, Iran made the tragic decision to violate that commitment,” she said, adding that US President Donald Trump would not remain silent over what Washington described as acts of terrorism in the strategic waterway.
Leavitt asserted that President Trump would ensure that Iran faces consequences for its actions, stating that the ongoing US response reflects the administration’s determination to protect maritime security and uphold commitments related to freedom of navigation in the region.
The Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most critical maritime chokepoints, remains a key route for global energy shipments, and tensions surrounding its security continue to raise concerns among international stakeholders.
