New Delhi/Seoul: South Korean technology giant Samsung Electronics is facing employee unrest after thousands of workers protested against what they described as a huge disparity in bonus payments within the company.
According to RT Hindi, around 5,000 Samsung employees gathered outside the company’s headquarters, expressing anger over what they termed an unfair compensation structure. The protesters alleged that employees working on artificial intelligence (AI) chip development are receiving bonuses nearly 100 times higher than those in other divisions.
The protesting employees claimed that AI chip division staff have received bonuses of up to $405,000, while workers in the consumer electronics segment were provided stock-based incentives worth only around $4,000.
During the demonstration, employees raised slogans including “One Company, One Right”, calling for equal treatment across different business units and demanding a review of the company’s salary and bonus policies.
The employees argued that while innovation and specialised skills should be rewarded, the contribution of workers across all divisions is essential to Samsung’s overall growth and success. They urged the management to adopt a more balanced compensation system to ensure fairness among employees.
