Addressing the conclave, the Chief Minister described tourism as one of the most powerful engines of economic development, stating that it not only generates large-scale employment but also plays a crucial role in preserving India’s rich cultural heritage. She said the sector creates a multiplier effect by boosting hospitality, transport, handicrafts, local markets and Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), thereby supporting sustainable and inclusive growth.
Referring to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision for the sector, Rekha Gupta recalled his observation that “Tourism has the potential to bring prosperity to the lives of many.” She said Delhi, with its unparalleled historical heritage, vibrant cultural landscape, world-class connectivity and successful hosting of major international events such as the G20 Summit, is well positioned to emerge as one of the world’s leading tourism capitals.
The Chief Minister reaffirmed the Delhi Government’s commitment to strengthening tourism infrastructure, improving connectivity, encouraging sustainable tourism practices and creating a visitor-centric ecosystem. She said these initiatives will contribute to the vision of Viksit Bharat while opening new avenues for economic growth, investment and employment in the national capital.
