New Delhi/Toronto, Canada: India and the Canadian province of Newfoundland and Labrador have reaffirmed their commitment to expanding bilateral cooperation across a range of strategic sectors during a high-level meeting between Consul General of India in Toronto, Mahavir Singhvi, and Tony Wakeham, Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador.
The meeting featured warm and forward-looking discussions on strengthening ties between India and Newfoundland and Labrador by leveraging shared economic interests and emerging opportunities for collaboration.
Both sides explored avenues to deepen engagement in energy and critical minerals, trade and investment, innovation, higher education, and skills development, with a focus on building long-term, mutually beneficial partnerships.
The discussions identified several high-potential sectors for future cooperation, including offshore energy, critical minerals, green hydrogen, mining, marine technology, port logistics, healthcare, higher education, and research collaboration.
The two leaders acknowledged the strong complementarities between India’s rapidly expanding economy and Newfoundland and Labrador’s resource-rich and innovation-driven sectors. They emphasized the importance of strengthening resilient economic partnerships, promoting innovation-led growth, expanding institutional and academic linkages, and encouraging greater collaboration between businesses and research institutions.
