Gurugram : As part of ongoing efforts under the Yamuna Action Plan, the Haryana State Pollution Control Board carried out extensive inspections of group housing societies and industrial units located along the Dwarka Expressway and nearby areas in Gurugram on May 6 and 7.
The inspection drive was conducted following directions issued during a review meeting chaired by the HSPCB Chairman. The primary objective was to evaluate the functioning and operational efficiency of Sewage Treatment Plants (STPs) installed in residential projects and to identify illegal industrial activities operating in the region.
During the inspections, officials identified irregularities in the STP installed at the Lotus Homes Affordable Group Housing Colony located in Sector-111. Samples from the inlet and outlet points of the STP were collected and sent for laboratory analysis. Pending the laboratory findings, the Board issued a show-cause notice to the concerned housing unit. A similar notice was also served to the Haryana Metal Unit situated on Pataudi Road.
Officials further revealed that several web cameras installed at construction sites for monitoring dust-control measures and environmental compliance were found to be non-functional. Consequently, show-cause notices proposing closure action and imposition of environmental compensation were issued to 58 construction sites. Authorities warned that strict action would be initiated if satisfactory responses are not submitted within the stipulated timeframe or if violations continue.
In addition, a meeting was held on May 7 at the HSPCB Regional Office in Gurugram (North) with representatives of various industrial associations. During the meeting, industrial units were instructed to ensure proper operation and maintenance of their Effluent Treatment Plants (ETPs) to prevent environmental violations.
HSPCB officials emphasized that any industrial unit found discharging untreated wastewater illegally would face stringent punitive action, including environmental compensation and legal prosecution. The Board reiterated its commitment to strengthening environmental compliance and pollution control measures in the region as part of broader efforts to protect the Yamuna river ecosystem.
