Gurugram : A two-day national conference on the topic of strong role of urban local bodies in constitutional democracy and nation building of all the states and union territories across the country is being organized on 3 and 4 July at the International Center for Automotive Technology (ICAT) located in Manesar of Gurugram district. All arrangements have been completed for the successful organization of the national conference. Haryana is ready to host the representatives of the country with its rich culture along with Haryanvi cultural heritage and is ready for a grand welcome.
Giving information, DC Ajay Kumar said that the two-day conference organized on the topic ‘Role of urban local bodies in constitutional democracy and nation building’ on Thursday, 3 July and 4 July will be inaugurated by the hands of Lok Sabha Speaker Shri Om Birla. He informed that Haryana Assembly Speaker Mr. Harvinder Kalyan is continuously reviewing the arrangements for the conference. He informed that Lok Sabha Secretary General Mr. Utpal Kumar Singh will be present in the conference. Haryana Chief Minister Mr. Nayab Singh Saini, Union Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Mr. Manohar Lal and Haryana Urban Local Bodies Minister Mr. Vipul Goyal will grace the inaugural session.
The DC informed that Mayors, Commissioners and other representatives of Municipal Corporations from across the country will participate in the conference. The objective of the conference is to make urban administration more effective, inclusive and innovation oriented, so that the goal of ‘Developed India 2047’ can be realized. The DC informed that in the program of the first day of the session, presentations will be given on the best practices adopted by the major cities of the country – Bhubaneswar, Coimbatore, Indore, Lucknow, Pune, Surat and Visakhapatnam. After this, workshops will be organized on five different sub-topics, which include the role of urban local bodies as the foundation of democracy, developing ideal working system and code of conduct for council meetings, role of local bodies as an engine of inclusive development, making municipal governance more effective, centers of innovation, improving the quality of life of citizens and public service delivery, as the carriers of women empowerment and the creators of 21st century India, preparing women for leadership in society and politics.
DC Ajay Kumar informed that similarly, in the session on Friday, July 4, group presentations on sub-topics, informal dialogue with the Lok Sabha Speaker and a closing session will be organized, in which Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman Shri Harivansh, Haryana Governor Shri Bandaru Dattatreya, Haryana Assembly Deputy Speaker Dr. Krishna Lal Midda will participate. This conference will not only determine the future direction of urban administration, but will also focus on the issues of urban governance.
