Energy Minister Anil Vij Inaugurates Rs.15 Crore STPfor Residents of Babiyal, Ambala Cantonment

Chandigarh : Haryana’s Energy, Transport and Labour Minister, Anil Vij, today inaugurated a Rs. 15 crore Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) in Babiyal, Ambala Cantonment. The STP is designed to service nearly 15,000 homes across various colonies connected by about 140 kilometers of sewage lines. Built using modern SBR (Sequencing Batch Reactor) technology, the plant is future-ready and will serve the city’s needs for the next 25 years. Treated wastewater will be safely discharged into the Tangri River.
Sh. Vij emphasized that development work in Ambala Cantonment is ongoing around the clock to ensure the city is equipped with all necessary facilities. He added that if a book were to be written on the development work done in Ambala Cantonment, people would feel proud because no previous administration had executed as many projects as his – made possible through public support and blessings.
Speaking to a large gathering after the inauguration of the STP with a capacity of 10 lakh liters per day, Sh. Vij noted that it would benefit areas including Tundla Mandi, Kalrahedi, Defence Colony (Sectors A-D), Baleka Nagla, Defence Enclave, Boh, Anand Nagar, Dalipgarh, Babiyal, Krishna Nagar, Shyam Nagar, Arjun Nagar, Vashisth Nagar and other colonies.
Residents Should Take Household Connections Where Sewer Lines Are Laid – Vij
Congratulating the residents on the inauguration, Sh. Vij said that sewer lines are being laid from Kalrahedi to Machhauda at a cost of Rs.341 crore, covering 370 km. Most of the pipeline has been laid, and the rest will be completed soon. He urged residents in areas where the lines are already laid to take household sewer connections to fully benefit from the project. The STP inaugurated in Babiyal is one of several – others will soon be operational at 12 Cross Road, Machhauda and village Khudda.
Development Projects Worth Crores Completed in Ambala Cantonment – Vij
Sh. Vij highlighted several completed or ongoing development projects in the Ambala Cantonment constituency, including Government College, Mini Secretariat, Asia’s largest international-level Shaheedi Smarak, New Grain Market, Science Museum, FIFA-approved international-level football stadium, All-weather swimming pool, Gymnastics and badminton halls, Fully air-conditioned Night Food Street Market near Gandhi Ground, Modern Civil Hospital, Atal Cancer Care Center, Subhash Park, Ring road around Ambala, Multi-level car parking in Sadar Bazar, Modern street lighting in all markets, Canal water supply system, Road construction on the Tangri embankment, 4 ROBs/RUBs, NCDC center in Naggal-Kardhan and Various community halls, dharamshalas, yoga centers.
Rs. 38 Crore Power Infrastructure Upgrade Underway – Vij
The Energy Minister said that overhead 33kV power lines in areas such as Mahesh Nagar and Babiyal have been relocated, significantly improving safety and convenience. An additional Rs. 38 crore is being invested to further strengthen Ambala Cantonment’s electricity infrastructure.
Efforts to Fully Air-Condition Local Bus Transport – Vij
Sh. Vij said that local buses have been reintroduced in Ambala Cantonment after 25 years. Initially, five air-conditioned electric buses were launched and now five more have been added. He reiterated his commitment to making all local buses air-conditioned. He also announced plans for a cleanliness drive after the monsoon, in collaboration with local councillors and citizens.
Multiple Development Projects Executed in Babiyal – Vij
He mentioned that numerous development works worth crores have been completed in Babiyal, including 8 dharamshalas, a library, a gym and more. He also announced upcoming projects, such as construction of Mahesh Nagar Drain at a cost of Rs.24 crore and Gudgudiya Drain at additional cost.
On this occasion, Municipal Council Chairperson Swarn Kaur, Vice Chairman Lalta Prasad, District Vice President Madan Lal Sharma, Narendra Rana, Mandal President Vikas Bahgal, Ravi Buddhiraja, Harsh Bindra, Pravesh Sharma, former Mandal President Kiran Pal Chauhan, Vijender Chauhan, Dimple Rana, Billu Rana, Baljinder Pal, Sanjeev Atri, Himanshu Singh, Deepak Bhasin, Ajay Baveja, Bharat Kochhar, Sanjeev Soni, Ashish Aggarwal, Shyam Sunder Arora, Women’s Wing President Sadhana, and various BJP officials were present.
