CSR project in Faridabad
New Delhi/ Faridabad : Global Cancer Concern India is a non-govt. funded NGO occupies a prominent place in the vanguard of cancer care organisations in the country. It has been relentlessly working nationwide through 19 station offices across the country for the last 20 years in the field of cancer care with focus on the disadvantaged section of the society. Recently, Anupriya Patel, Hon. Union Minister of State, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Govt of India flagged off Mobile Primary Health, Cancer Screening and Palliative Care Unit of Global Cancer Concern India (GCCI).
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Harvinder Singh Bakshi, CEO, GCCI said, “This unit will be providing free service with the focus on the poor people residing in urban localities in Faridabad and its neighbouring villages. The unit will include, a Doctor, a Nurse, a Project Officer and Driver.
He said that it will provide OPD service with free medicines, will conduct Cancer Awareness and Screening Camps and also will visits the homes of the poor cancer patients to provide palliative care service. Despite the best efforts of the Government, India is beset with the monumental task of fighting cancer as the incidence of this disease is burgeoning. As per the report of GLOBOCAN project 2013, it is estimated that India will experience doubling of its cancer burden in next 20 years.
According to him there are about 26 lakh cancer patients in the country. About 10 lakh new cases are added and about 5 lakh people die of cancer every year”, he added.
Amongst those present were Ravi Prakash, Chief Manager of Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) which has sponsored this unit under its CSR Program. On this occasion senior staff of GCCI and the officials of the ministry were present.
