Talks focus on leveraging CEPA to expand trade, investment and resilient supply chains

New Delhi: Union Minister for Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal held a meeting with Sheikh Hamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Managing Director of the Abu Dhabi Investment Authority (ADIA), to discuss ways to further accelerate the India-UAE economic partnership.

The discussions focused on fully leveraging the India-UAE Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA), which provides a framework for expanding bilateral trade and investment while supporting more resilient and diversified supply chains.

Goyal highlighted India’s strong growth trajectory and the broad range of investment opportunities available to UAE investors across sectors. He noted that the CEPA framework can help deepen commercial linkages and create new avenues for businesses and investors from both countries.

The meeting also underlined the importance of strengthening investment flows alongside the expansion of merchandise and services trade, with Abu Dhabi-based institutional capital playing an important role in India’s investment landscape.

India and the UAE have significantly expanded their economic engagement in recent years, with the CEPA entering into force in May 2022. The agreement has sought to reduce or eliminate tariffs on a large number of goods, improve market access and facilitate closer integration between the two economies.

The interaction between Goyal and Sheikh Hamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan comes as both countries continue efforts to build a broader economic relationship spanning trade, investment, infrastructure, technology, manufacturing, logistics and supply-chain cooperation.

Goyal said he looked forward to further deepening the shared economic ties and taking the India-UAE partnership to new heights.
