Lucknow: Defence Minister Rajnath Singh attended the convocation ceremony of Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University in Lucknow and addressed the graduating students.
Singh said the purpose of education was not limited to making students self-reliant by providing them with knowledge and skills. He emphasised that education must also prepare young people to become sensitive, responsible and socially conscious citizens.
“Education should build character in students and instil in them a sense of responsibility towards the nation and society,” Singh said.
He noted that the expectations from students of a university named after Dr Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar, a great nation-builder, were particularly high. He urged the students to draw inspiration from Dr Ambedkar’s ideals and contribute meaningfully to the process of nation-building.
The Defence Minister described India’s youth as the country’s greatest strength. He said the role of young people would be crucial in helping India achieve the goal of becoming a developed nation by 2047.
Singh encouraged the youth to use their talent, knowledge and energy to accelerate the country’s development, find solutions to emerging challenges and bring positive change to society.
He congratulated the students who received their degrees at the convocation and wished them success and a bright future.
