Tokyo, August 24: Union Minister for Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal held a productive roundtable discussion with Keidanren, the Japan Business Federation, in Tokyo, focusing on opportunities to further strengthen the India-Japan economic and investment partnership.

The roundtable was co-chaired by Mr. Tatsuo Yasunaga, along with Mr. Hironori Kamezawa, Mr. Yuji Fukasawa and other distinguished members of Keidanren’s Committee on South Asia. Indian business leaders and industry representatives also participated in the discussions.

The meeting assumes significance as India and Japan mark 75 years of diplomatic relations, while Keidanren celebrates 80 years of its contribution to Japan’s business and economic landscape.

During the interaction, Goyal highlighted the strong growth momentum of the Indian economy and the expanding opportunities emerging across key sectors. Building on the outcomes of the 16th India-Japan Annual Summit, he highlighted Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of doubling the number of Japanese companies operating in India and the ambition to attract ¥10 trillion in Japanese investment into India over the coming decade.

Goyal invited members of Keidanren to further expand their engagement with India, particularly in areas such as advanced manufacturing, semiconductors, artificial intelligence (AI) and innovation.

He emphasised that deeper participation by Japanese businesses in these emerging sectors can further strengthen bilateral economic ties while helping establish India as a competitive and reliable global manufacturing and technology hub.

The discussions also underscored the growing convergence between India’s expanding industrial capabilities and Japan’s technological expertise, investment capacity and strong manufacturing ecosystem.

The Commerce and Industry Minister’s engagement with Japanese industry leaders forms part of India’s broader efforts to deepen economic cooperation with Japan and translate the strategic partnership into greater trade, investment, technology collaboration and industrial partnerships.
