Skyroot Aerospace Co-Founder and CEO says meeting three generations of the Sarabhai family offered a powerful reminder of how one visionary idea can inspire generations

Ahmedabad : As India celebrated National Space Day, Pawan Kumar Chandana, Co-Founder and CEO of Skyroot Aerospace, shared a memorable experience of visiting the Ahmedabad home where Dr. Vikram Sarabhai once lived and envisioned India’s future in space.

Chandana said the visit gave him the opportunity to spend time with three generations of the family of Dr. Vikram Sarabhai, widely regarded as the father of India’s space programme.

Reflecting on Sarabhai’s extraordinary legacy, Chandana said that his vision helped propel India from its earliest experiments with rockets to landmark missions to the Moon and contributed to building an ecosystem that opened new possibilities for the country’s private space sector.

The legacy of Dr. Sarabhai continues to be reflected in India’s space journey, with the Vikram lander and Skyroot Aerospace’s Vikram-1 rocket carrying his name. Chandana described his interaction with the Sarabhai family as particularly memorable, including his meeting with Dr. Sarabhai’s great-grandson, Kavan, whose curiosity about subjects such as rocket ignition delays and materials left a lasting impression on him.

Walking through the home of a visionary who helped lay the foundations of India’s space programme and interacting with his family, Chandana said, was an unforgettable experience and a reminder of how far a single visionary idea can travel across generations.

He also expressed his gratitude to Mohals, Samvit, Rajshree, Christina and Ritu for their warmth and hospitality during the visit.
