Tashkent, August 5: India and Uzbekistan held the Sixth Joint Working Group (JWG) Meeting on Defence Cooperation in Tashkent on August 5, 2026, reaffirming their growing strategic defence partnership.
The meeting was co-chaired by Joint Secretary Shri Dinesh Kumar from the Indian side and Lieutenant Colonel Sukhrobjon Sodikjonovich Sirojov, Head of the Central Department for International Military Cooperation, Ministry of Defence of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
During the discussions, both sides reviewed ongoing defence cooperation and explored ways to further strengthen collaboration in:
- Joint military training and exercises
- Capacity building
- Defence education
- Defence industry cooperation
As part of the visit, the Indian delegation also visited the University of Military Security and Defence in Uzbekistan to review India’s ongoing capacity-building initiatives and defence training programmes.
The meeting underscored the shared commitment of both countries to expanding defence ties and further strengthening the India-Uzbekistan defence partnership.
