New Delhi : Tensions between U.S. President Donald Trump and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni have reportedly escalated in recent days, with a verbal exchange drawing attention in political circles ahead of the upcoming NATO summit.

According to reports, the controversy began after Trump suggested that Meloni had repeatedly sought photographs with him, a remark that prompted a strong response from the Italian leader, who rejected the characterization and asserted, “Italy and I do not beg before anyone.”

The exchange further intensified when Trump, responding to Meloni’s remarks, made a pointed comment joking about the situation, saying there may be “a need for a restraining order,” as reported by observers of the dispute.

The developments come at a sensitive time, with both leaders expected to be present at the upcoming NATO summit scheduled in July in Turkey, where diplomatic interactions between key allies are expected to draw close attention.
