New Delhi: A 21-year-old student, the daughter of a daily wage labourer in Unnao District , has alleged that her Aadhaar and PAN details were misused after she reportedly received a ₹10,000 notice from the Income Tax Department over financial transactions she claims she never made.
According to media reports, an inquiry found that transactions worth nearly ₹20 crore had allegedly been carried out in her name. The student has denied any involvement, stating that she had no knowledge of the transactions.
“I don’t know anything about these transactions. My Aadhaar and PAN have been misused,” she said.
The incident has raised fresh concerns over identity theft and the misuse of personal documents in the digital era, particularly as Aadhaar and PAN have become essential for financial and tax-related activities.
If the allegations are confirmed, the case could point to a significant lapse in identity security rather than an isolated incident. It has also renewed calls for a thorough investigation to identify those responsible and ensure justice for individuals whose identity documents may have been fraudulently used.
