CAQM Reviews Enforcement Drive in NCR ; Over 175 Inspections Conducted to Curb Pollution

New Delhi :The Enforcement Task Force (ETF) of the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) convened its 128th meeting on April 2, 2026, to assess enforcement actions and inspections carried out across the National Capital Region (NCR) between March 14 and March 26.

During the 13-day review period, CAQM’s Flying Squads conducted a total of 175 inspections across key pollution-prone sectors, including Construction & Demolition (C&D) sites, industrial units, road dust hotspots, and Diesel Generator (DG) sets. The inspections included 23 C&D sites, 37 industrial units, and 114 DG-related checks.

Strict Action Against Violations

Based on findings, authorities have proposed closure of 10 units, sealing of DG sets at 27 locations, issuance of show-cause notices to 8 units, and environmental compensation in one case.

The Task Force also reviewed enforcement related to road dust management. Inspections in Meerut and Faridabad, covering 16 zones, identified 140 violations. Directions have been issued to municipal authorities for corrective measures, including strict action against repeat offenders.

Focus on Priority Sectors

The ETF emphasized the need for intensified inspections in high-impact sectors such as DG sets (in line with Direction No. 76), construction activities, road dust control, and stone crushers. It also noted that restructuring of Flying Squad teams is underway to enhance efficiency and coverage.

Cumulative Enforcement Status

As of April 2, 2026, CAQM Flying Squads have inspected 26,672 entities across NCR. Of these, 1,755 closure orders have been issued for non-compliance, while 1,330 units have been allowed to resume operations after meeting environmental norms.

Additionally, 123 cases have been referred to State Pollution Control Boards and the Delhi Pollution Control Committee for further action, while 302 cases are still under review.

Push for Stronger Compliance

The Commission reiterated the importance of strict enforcement, improved coordination among agencies, and timely follow-up actions to effectively tackle air pollution in the NCR. It stressed the need for greater accountability and enhanced inspection mechanisms to ensure compliance with environmental standards.
