New Delhi : In a major push towards port-led infrastructure development, Union Minister for Ports, Shipping and Waterways Sarbananda Sonowal has approved the construction of a Road Over Bridge (ROB) at LC-235 within the Deendayal Port Authority. The project is estimated to cost ₹132.51 crore.
The initiative is part of the Centre’s flagship Sagarmala Programme and is aligned with the PM Gati Shakti National Master Plan, both aimed at improving multi-modal connectivity and logistics efficiency. The construction work is being executed by Western Railway on a deposit basis.
Highlighting the importance of the project, Sonowal said it reflects the government’s commitment to building seamless and modern connectivity under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He noted that the ROB will help eliminate key bottlenecks, improve cargo movement, and enhance overall logistics performance, strengthening India’s ambitions to emerge as a global maritime hub.
The proposal was recently reviewed by the Delegated Investment Board (DIB) under the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, where the revised project cost was assessed to ensure adherence to updated safety and technical standards.
Once completed, the ROB is expected to streamline traffic movement across the rail crossing, reduce congestion, and enable faster evacuation of cargo from the port. The project is seen as a crucial step in improving operational efficiency and strengthening the country’s maritime logistics network.
In line with the government’s focus on integrated infrastructure development, the Ministry has also directed all major ports to map their projects on the PM Gati Shakti portal. This move is aimed at improving coordination among agencies, ensuring better planning of multi-modal connectivity, and accelerating project execution nationwide.
