New Delhi :To mark International Women’s Day, the Ministry of Women and Child Development will organise a women-led march titled “Shakti Walk #SheLeadsBharat” on 8 March 2026 along Kartavya Path in New Delhi.
Observed globally every year on March 8, International Women’s Day celebrates the achievements, leadership, and contributions of women across all spheres of life while reinforcing the commitment to gender equality, safety, dignity and empowerment. The Shakti Walk has been planned to underline the important role women play in building a progressive and inclusive Bharat.
The initiative aims to celebrate women’s leadership across sectors, highlight the Government of India’s commitment to women’s safety and empowerment, and showcase major flagship schemes and initiatives for women’s welfare. The event will also encourage solidarity and pride among women from diverse backgrounds while reinforcing the idea that women-led development is central to India’s growth story.
The walk will be held from 7:30 AM to 10:00 AM, covering an approximately two-kilometre route from India Gate to Vijay Chowk along Kartavya Path.
Around 3,000 women from more than 150 Ministries, Departments and organisations are expected to participate in the event. The participants will include representatives from the Armed Forces, police, media, healthcare, sports, government institutions, industry and grassroots organisations. Walking under the theme #SheLeadsBharat, participants will highlight the pivotal role of women in shaping a modern and inclusive India.
Women officers from various ministries and departments of the Government of India have also been invited to take part, along with representatives from several international organisations.
The walk will be led by prominent women public representatives, including Union Ministers, Ministers of State, Members of Parliament, MLAs and distinguished women leaders from different fields.
The programme will begin with brief addresses by dignitaries, followed by the ceremonial flag-off of the Shakti Walk.
Along the route at Kartavya Path, installations will display key government schemes for women and the achievements of women across diverse sectors, highlighting their growing role in nation-building.
A specially curated cultural presentation at India Gate will celebrate the spirit of womanhood and national pride. The performances will include traditional art forms such as Dollu Kunitha, Kalaripayattu, Sringarimelam, Ranchandi and Ghoomar, reflecting the cultural diversity and strength of women across India.
The cultural programme will begin with a mass rendition of “Vande Mataram,” followed by the release of balloons carrying the message “Shakti Walk – #SheLeadsBharat.”
The celebrations recognise the crucial contribution of women in achieving the national vision of Viksit Bharat 2047, reaffirming that women-led development remains key to India’s future progress.
