New Delhi /Mumbai : Mark Carney, Prime Minister of Canada, arrived in Mumbai along with his wife, Diana Fox Carney, marking the beginning of his official visit to India. Prime Minister Carney is on a five-day visit from February 27 to March 2, 2026, his first official trip to India since assuming office. During his stay in Mumbai, he is scheduled to participate in a series of business engagements and interact with Indian and Canadian CEOs, industry leaders, financial experts, innovators, educators, and representatives of Canadian pension funds operating in India.
Sharing the information of the Canadian Prime Minister arrival on social miedia X , Randhir Jaiswal Official Spokesperson, Ministry of External Affairs, India said that ” A warm welcome to Prime Minister@MarkJCarney of Canada as he arrives in Mumbai on his first Official Visit to India. The visit marks a significant step in further strengthening India–Canada ties. He was received by Minister of Protocol and Marketing, Government of Maharashtra, Shri@JaykumarRawal at the airport. The India–Canada partnership is anchored in shared democratic values, strong people-to-people ties, and expanding cooperation across diverse sectors. “
The Canadian Prime Minister will travel to New Delhi on March 1. On March 2, delegation-level talks will be held between Prime Minister Carney and Narendra Modi at Hyderabad House. The discussions will review progress made across various sectors of the India–Canada Strategic Partnership, building on their earlier meetings in Kananaskis in June 2025 and Johannesburg in November 2025.
Both leaders are expected to assess ongoing cooperation in key areas such as trade and investment, energy, critical minerals, agriculture, education, research and innovation, and people-to-people ties. They will also exchange views on important regional and global developments.
Later in the day, Prime Minister Modi and Prime Minister Carney will attend the India–Canada CEOs Forum.
The visit comes at a significant juncture as both nations work towards normalising bilateral relations. The two leaders have earlier agreed to pursue a constructive and balanced partnership based on mutual respect, strong people-to-people connections, and expanding economic complementarities. The upcoming meeting is expected to reaffirm the positive momentum and shared vision of both countries in strengthening a forward-looking partnership.
