Gurugram : An important meeting was held with members of the Indian Medical Association (IMA) regarding the safe and scientific disposal of biomedical waste in the city. Officials from the Haryana Pollution Control Board were also present at the meeting, chaired by Municipal Commissioner Pradeep Dahiya at the Municipal Corporation office. The officials directed hospitals and healthcare institutions to strictly adhere to biomedical waste disposal regulations.

Dumping medical waste in public places is extremely dangerous

Serious concern was expressed at the meeting that some hospitals and clinics dump biomedical waste in public places, which is extremely harmful. This type of waste can spread infection, harm the environment, and pose a major threat to the health of the general public.

Medical waste must be handed over only to authorized vendors

Officials issued clear instructions that all hospitals, nursing homes, clinics, and labs must hand over their biomedical waste only to authorized vendors. For this, the concerned institutions will be required to enter into a formal agreement with the authorized agency.

Strict rules for bulk waste generators

The meeting also stated that all bulk waste generators, such as large hospitals, diagnostic centers, and other healthcare institutions, will be responsible for the proper disposal of their waste. They must ensure the segregation, collection, and disposal of waste according to prescribed standards.

Action will be taken against violations

Corporation Commissioner Pradeep Dahiya stated that strict action will be taken against institutions violating biomedical waste management rules. Citizens were also urged to immediately report any medical waste found lying in the open. Proper disposal of biomedical waste is essential for a clean and safe city.
