International Ayurveda Conference to Tackle Obesity and Metabolic Syndrome Begins on 1–2 December

New Delhi : The Central Council for Research in Ayurvedic Sciences (CCRAS), Ministry of Ayush, will host a two-day International Conference on Ayurveda and Integrative Approaches to Obesity & Metabolic Syndrome on 1–2 December 2025 at the A.V. Rama Rao Auditorium, IISc Bengaluru. The event is being organised by the Central Ayurveda Research Institute (CARI), Bengaluru, as part of CCRAS’ 57th Foundation Day celebrations.

Held in collaboration with the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) and NIMHANS, the conference aims to address the growing global challenge of obesity and metabolic disorders through evidence-based Ayurvedic and integrative medical practices. It reflects the Ministry of Ayush’s focus on strengthening research-led healthcare and promoting global health solutions.

Speaking about the significance of the event, Minister of State (IC) for Ayush and Minister of State for Health & Family Welfare, Shri Prataprao Jadhav, said that India is strengthening its leadership in integrative healthcare with Ayurveda playing a key role. He noted that obesity and metabolic disorders are major public health challenges, and the government is committed to supporting research, innovation and interdisciplinary collaboration.

The Secretary, Ministry of Ayush, said that rising metabolic diseases call for collaborative, science-backed efforts. Ayurveda’s holistic and preventive approach, when combined with modern biomedical advances, offers strong potential for improved healthcare outcomes.

CCRAS Director General Dr. Rabinarayan Acharya highlighted that the conference aims to connect traditional Ayurvedic wisdom with advanced biomedical research. He added that the discussions will help shape integrative care models, translational research and global health policy.

Organising Secretary Dr. Sucholachana Bhatt said the event brings together top experts from Ayurveda and modern biomedicine to discuss solutions for obesity and related disorders. She noted that a special issue of CCRAS’ research journal JDRAS on Obesity & Metabolic Disorders, along with ten new books, will be released during the event.

The conference will host experts from Ayurveda, modern medicine, life sciences and public health from India and abroad. The programme includes plenary talks, parallel scientific sessions, a symposium on integrative management of Type-2 Diabetes, Obesity and Dyslipidemia, and a Workshop on Nanotechnology & Molecular Biology on 2 December at the TCS Smart-X Hub, IISc. A health screening camp will also be conducted on both days.

More than 700 delegates are expected to join the event, which will feature 267 oral presentations, 120 virtual presentations, 70 posters and 16 plenary sessions. Pre-conference virtual deliberations were held from 25–27 November.

The conference reinforces CCRAS’s commitment to advancing integrative research, strengthening global partnerships and promoting evidence-based healthcare aligned with India’s vision of holistic and accessible wellbeing.
