Gurugram : Gurugram police arrested an RTI activist and a YouTuber for allegdly extorting money from a private school owner and blackmailing them in Cyber City Gurugram. The police produced both of them in the court. The court sent them to judicial custody. The police is investigating the matter.
In a complaint to the Sector 10 A Police Station, Gurugram, Pradeep Kaushik said that he is the chairman of GAV International School. His school has various branches. In October 2022, a person named Sukhbir Tanwar had filed an RTI in the education department against his school. It is alleged that through this RTI, the business of blackmailing him was started. He also alleged taht a case was filed in the court to blackmail him, in lieu of withdrawing which Rs 10 lakh was demanded . According to the school owner, even after a lot of efforts, when Sukhbir did not agree, on 5 December 2024, to save his and the school’s image, he gave Sukhbir Rs 2.5 lakh in the court premises. After which on 8 April 2025, he withdrew the case. Even after this, their blackmailing did not stop.
The Complainant said that on 15 April 2025, once again an RTI was filed against his school. In this, he started harassing and blackmailing by filing RTI in the school as well as other departments including the Income Tax Department. It is alleged that this time Sukhbir Tanwar demanded five lakh rupees from him. The school owner disclosed that this time Sukhbir Tanwar contacted him through a YouTuber MK Maurya and both of them started pressurizing him demanding five lakh rupees.
The aggrieved school owner was much troubled and on May 8, he called both of them to his school in Sector-37 and gave them 25 thousand rupees and asked them to pay the remaining amount later. This entire incident was captured on CCTV camera. On this, he lodged a complaint with the police and also gave the CCTV footage to the police. Police registered a case on the basis of the complaint and arrested both of them. Police produced both of them in the court, from where they were sent to judicial custody. Police is investigating the matter.
