Gurugram, April 08 : Gig workers and platform workers will be registered on the e-shram portal under a special campaign in the district till April 17 to connect them with initiatives like social security. In the campaign, the concerned institutions will motivate the unorganized sector workers associated with them to register and will cooperate in achieving the set targets. In this context, DC Ajay Kumar held a meeting with the officials of other reputed institutions including Ola, Uber, DTDC, Zomato, Flipkart and Amazon in the conference hall located at the Mini Secretariat on Tuesday.

Addressing the meeting, DC Ajay Kumar said that the gig workforce is an important pillar of India’s new age economy, which promotes innovation and efficiency on the digital platform. Recognizing their contribution, the government’s decision to provide them identity cards, e-shram registration and health security under the PM Jan Arogya Yojana is a transformative step towards their social security and welfare. This initiative will definitely empower the gig workers. He said that respect, security and prosperity can be ensured for every worker. With this objective, the Haryana government is committed to provide social security benefits to the workers of unorganized sectors as well. He informed that Chief Minister Shri Naib Singh Saini has also given special emphasis to provide facilities like insurance and health security cover to gig workers in the budget of the current financial year. The DC urged to register all gig and platform workers in the meeting, stressing that registration of workers is important to provide them more benefits under various government initiatives.

In the meeting, Additional Labor Commissioner Kushal Kataria said that the government has placed the workers working in companies like Amazon, Flipkart and other companies providing online goods in the category of gig workers. It is necessary to register on the e-shram portal to protect the interests of the said platform workers, provide them social security and give them the benefit of various schemes. For this, separate counters will be opened in the premises of the concerned institution along with the places identified by the Labor Department. Where workers working on online platforms can register till April 17. He said that workers can register by taking their educational documents, mobile linked to Aadhaar, bank account and PAN card. Kushal Kataria also urged all aggregators to nominate a nodal officer/single point of contact (SPOC) for coordination with the labor department. He said that all the institutions should provide space for registration to the labor department team in their premises. Apart from this, the platforms should also make workers aware to register themselves in special registration camps.
