To Curb Drugs and Drug Traffickers, All States in the Region, Including Punjab, Should Form a Task Force : Energy, Transport & Labour Minister
Chandigarh, March 27 : Haryana’s Energy, Transport & Labour Minister, Anil Vij today emphasized the need for a joint task force across all states in the region, including Punjab, to crack down on drugs and drug traffickers. He pointed out that since it takes very little time for addicts and traffickers to transport drugs from one state to another, a coordinated effort is necessary.Commenting on the Punjab government’s initiative to count drug addicts, Vij remarked that “Counting addicts won’t make them quit drugs. Instead, the government should focus on what actions it is taking to eradicate drug abuse.” He also criticized AAP’s governance, and said that “They have no leadership, no policy and their intentions are not right.”
Sh. Vij made these remarks while responding to media questions in Chandigarh regarding the Punjab government’s approach to census of drug addicts.
“Punjab Is a Border State, and Efforts to Ruin Our Youth Continue Across the Border” – Vij
Sh. Vij further explained that Punjab’s geographical position makes it vulnerable to drug smuggling, with cross-border elements continuously targeting Indian youth. He noted that “Nowadays, drugs are being dropped at targeted locations using drones. Even though our forces are alert, such incidents still happen. Counting addicts won’t solve anything; it’s just a show.” He reiterated the importance of forming a regional task force, stating that “This issue isn’t limited to Punjab. All states in the region must collaborate to form a task force because it takes very little time for drug peddlers to move between states.”
“When I Was Home Minister, Haryana Created a Special Wing/Department to Fight Drug Abuse” – Vij*
Sh.Vij highlighted Haryana’s past initiatives, recalling that “When I was Home Minister, we created a separate department/wing to curb drug abuse, as regular police officers have multiple responsibilities and cannot be frequently reassigned.” He urged all states in the region to take similar coordinated steps.
“BJP Fulfills Its Promises, Unlike Other Parties” – Vij
When asked about AAP’s unfulfilled promise of giving ₹1,000 per month to women in Punjab, Sh. Vij remarked that “It’s now clear that in India, the only party that keeps its promises is the BJP. We do what we say.”
“Opposition Parties Mislead, Deceive and Enjoy Power for Their Own Benefit” – Vij
Sh.Vij accused opposition parties of making false promises and said that “We have accomplished difficult tasks, such as the abrogation of Article 370, paving the way for the Ram Temple and ending triple talaq. The opposition merely talks from the outside, but we have delivered results from within. Only we can do this.” He further criticized opposition parties, saying that “I don’t want to say this, but they are all dishonest. They mislead, deceive and enjoy power for their own benefit.”
