Divisional Commissioner reviews preparation for monsoon and waterlogging solutions

Gurugram, March 26 : Divisional Commissioner R.C. Bidhan chaired a review meeting in the conference hall of the Mini Secretariat on Wednesday regarding the preparations being made by the district administration to solve the problem of pre-monsoon waterlogging in the district and gave necessary guidelines to the departmental officials. The Divisional Commissioner directed the officials of GMDA, Municipal Corporation, HSVP, Irrigation, Public Health present in the meeting to mark the critical points as well as the possible places where there may be a problem of waterlogging. In the meeting, the Divisional Commissioner clarified that there should be no problem of water logging in the concerned areas to keep the traffic facility smooth during the rainy days. He said that all the departments should coordinate with each other and inspect the places where rainwater accumulates. Whatever arrangements can be made for water drainage as per the rules, they should be completed as soon as possible.

He said that there should be proper arrangement for the drainage of waterlogging in the underpass, so that the water can come out quickly. Motor pumps should be installed for immediate drainage during heavy rains. Apart from this, ensure regular cleaning of the drain constructed for drainage so that silt does not accumulate. This will not obstruct the flow of garbage and soil. The Divisional Commissioner directed DC Ajay Kumar to get this work continuously monitored by the SDM level officer and submit his review report. He said that GMDA should conduct a mock drill in front of the officials for water drainage at 21 places.

In the meeting, DC Ajay Kumar apprised the Divisional Commissioner about the preparations being made to deal with the problem of waterlogging and said that adequate arrangements are being ensured so that waterlogging does not occur in urban and rural areas due to rain. He informed that all the officials of the concerned department have been instructed to clean the drains in their jurisdiction. This work will be completed before the month of June. All necessary solutions are being ensured while taking special care that the general public does not face problems due to waterlogging. He said that for the last several years, the number of critical points is being reduced through proper arrangements. This year, 13 points have been marked and necessary arrangements are being made for the drainage of waterlogging there. In the meeting, GMDA officials assured that during the rain, water will not flow on the road for long. This will not cause waterlogging and traffic jams.

In the meeting, both the Divisional Commissioners took stock of the preparations to deal with floods district-wise. They also gave necessary guidelines to the officers. Divisional Commissioner Sanjay June instructed the officers that many areas in South Haryana are extremely affected by heavy rains during monsoon. The irrigation department should keep all its preparations complete for the drainage of rain water, especially in the areas near Aravali. He said that keeping in mind the goal that no disaster of any kind should occur during the monsoon, all the departments should complete their respective preparations.

Divisional Commissioner Ramesh Chandra Bidhan directed to create a WhatsApp group for disaster management by connecting the officers of all the main departments in the meeting, so that the exchange of information can be done on time and the concerned officers can take action within the time limit. He said that the officers of the irrigation department should identify the flood affected areas on the basis of the experiences of the monsoon of the past years and ensure that water drainage pumps of appropriate capacity are installed there.
