Crime against women in the state have declined by 19.6 percent : Naib Singh Saini

Chandigarh, March 10 : Haryana Chief Minister Naib Singh Saini said that the state government is working on the policy of ‘zero tolerance for crime’ in Haryana.  He said that special units have been formed to deal with crimes and the police force is being modernized.

 

Shri Saini gave this information in response to a question during the budget session of the Haryana Legislative Assembly today. The Chief Minister informed that incidents of crime against women in the state have declined by 19.6 percent in the year 2024. While 11,814 cases were registered in the year 2023, a total of 9,488 cases were registered in the year 2024. There has been a significant reduction in crimes affecting women.

 

He informed that rape cases have decreased by 23.3 percent. Apart from this, there has been a decline of 19.8 percent in the incidents of gang rape. 113 cases were registered in the year 2024 as compared to 141 cases last year.

 

The Chief Minister also highlighted that the number of murder cases declined to 966 in 2024 from 1,061 cases in 2023. Similarly, cases under the SC/ST Act witnessed a significant drop of 30.7 per cent, from 1,514 cases in 2023 to 1,049 in 2024.

The Chief Minister attributed this overall reduction in crime rate to the increased presence of police personnel as well as vigilant monitoring and relentless efforts made by law enforcement agencies to ensure public safety. Between 2019 and December 2024, a total of 119,011 FIRs were registered in Haryana, including cases of murder, rape, gang rape, kidnapping, robbery, dacoity, crimes against women and crimes targeting Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes. He further informed that out of 6,338 murder cases registered from the year 2019 to 2024, 95.23 percent were disposed of, in which 12,966 accused were arrested. Similarly, out of 22,994 kidnapping cases registered during the same period, 97.67 percent were resolved. In cases of robbery, 2,594 cases were registered in the last five years, out of which 2,491 cases were solved. Similarly, out of a total of 68030 cases of crime against women, 66806 cases have been solved which is 98.20 percent.

Apart from this, out of 7,779 cases registered under SC/ST Act between the year 2019 and the year 2024, 97.15 percent have also been disposed of.

The Chief Minister said that the state government is working on the policy of ‘Zero Tolerance for Crime’. To effectively control crime and maintain law and order, the government is working to strengthen law enforcement agencies. The government has taken several important steps to ensure the safety of all citizens including businessmen. While the state government is increasing the police force in view of the increasing population, it is also forming special units and modernizing the police force to deal with heinous and emerging crimes.

STF curbed gangs involved in heinous crimes : CM 

Haryana’s Special Task Force (STF), formed to tackle organised crime, has not only curbed gangs involved in crimes like kidnapping, contract killing, extortion, loot and dacoity between the years 2020 to 2024, but has also performed exceptionally well by arresting a total of 1997 accused, including 542 most wanted criminals, 256 gangster/gang members and 1199 other criminals involved in heinous crimes.

 

Chief Minister Mr Naib Singh Saini was giving this information in response to a question raised during the ongoing Budget Session of the Haryana Vidhan Sabha today.

 

He said that the STF is continuously taking action on various gangs and criminals involved in organised crime across the state. The STF has arrested and brought to justice 325 criminals in 2020, 227 in 2021, 388 in 2022, 421 in 2023 and 636 in 2024.

 

Along with arresting the most wanted criminals and gangsters, the STF has also recovered a large quantity of illegal weapons including 217 pistols, 7 revolvers, 272 country-made pistols, 47 magazines and more than 2,000 cartridges from the possession of the arrested criminals.
