New Delhi: The Ministry of External Affairs has clarified that Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy received political clearance for his visit to the United Kingdom, while approval was not granted for the proposed United States leg of his foreign tour.

MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said that overseas visits undertaken by chief ministers and other high-ranking dignitaries are subject to an assessment by the Ministry of External Affairs before political clearance is issued.

According to the MEA, the proposed itinerary and engagements of such visits are examined to ensure that they are in keeping with the constitutional position of the visiting dignitary and the stated objective of the tour.

Jaiswal said that, in Revanth Reddy’s case, the proposed programme for the US visit did not meet these requirements. Consequently, the ministry decided against granting political clearance for the visit.

At the same time, the MEA confirmed that the Telangana Chief Minister had been given the necessary clearance to travel to the United Kingdom.
