Srinagar : U.S. Ambassador to India and Special Envoy for South and Central Asia Sergio Gor met Jammu & Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah during his first official visit to the Union Territory.

Gor said he appreciated the opportunity to meet the Chief Minister and learn more about his priorities for Jammu & Kashmir. The two sides discussed ways to deepen economic collaboration and create mutually beneficial opportunities for India and the United States.

The meeting took place during Gor’s first visit to Jammu & Kashmir since assuming charge as U.S. Ambassador to India earlier this year. He is also scheduled to travel to Ladakh following his engagements in the Kashmir Valley.

The visit comes amid growing India-U.S. engagement on economic and strategic issues. Gor has recently stressed the importance of addressing economic friction points and creating a more predictable business environment to unlock the potential of bilateral trade.

Earlier, ahead of the meeting, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah said that issues concerning Jammu & Kashmir should be addressed by the Government of India, while indicating that he would discuss the situation and listen to the U.S. envoy’s views.
