New Delhi, August 18, 2026: Union Minister for Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal highlighted the significant opportunities for Japanese companies to invest in Uttar Pradesh, stressing that the state can play an important role in India’s next phase of economic growth.
Goyal made the remarks while addressing a dinner reception for a Japanese delegation led by Kotaro Nagasaki, Governor of Yamanashi Prefecture, in the presence of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and representatives of JETRO and Invest UP.
Goyal said Uttar Pradesh offers an exceptional opportunity to attract investments into India and advance the Make in India initiative for global markets. He highlighted the complementarity between Japan’s technological capabilities and industrial expertise and India’s young and talented workforce.
According to Goyal, there is considerable potential for cooperation in manufacturing, skill development and job creation. He also pointed to Uttar Pradesh’s expanding infrastructure, including Jewar Airport, the Western Dedicated Freight Corridor and 27 industrial clusters covering sectors such as defence, semiconductors and electronics.
Japanese companies are already expanding their presence in Uttar Pradesh, while the state is seeking to attract further investment and technology partnerships across manufacturing, automobiles, semiconductors, green energy and digital infrastructure.
Goyal also said he would travel to Japan the following week with a large Indian business delegation to advance discussions with Japanese government and industry leaders and further strengthen the India-Japan Special Strategic and Global Partnership.
He invited Japanese industry to become partners in India’s growth story, with Uttar Pradesh emerging as an important destination for investment, manufacturing, technology and employment generation.
