Brussels/New Delhi: The European Union (EU) has highlighted the growing depth of its strategic partnership with India, with a focus on strengthening cooperation in areas including trade, technology, security, defence, and maritime stability.
Kaja Kallas, EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice-President of the European Commission, said that the current year marks a historic milestone for EU–India relations, as both sides continue to expand cooperation across multiple strategic sectors.
In a recent interaction with India’s External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar, Kallas discussed ways to further advance the partnership between the two sides, including enhanced collaboration in the area of maritime security.
Highlighting the importance of maintaining a secure and open maritime environment, Kallas stressed that the European Union and India must work together to safeguard freedom of navigation, strengthen resilient supply chains, and promote stability in the Indo-Pacific region and beyond.
She also underlined the significance of deeper coordination between the EU’s maritime security operations — Operation ATALANTA and Operation ASPIDES — and the Indian Navy to enhance collective efforts towards ensuring maritime safety and security.
The discussions reflect the shared commitment of India and the European Union to build a stronger strategic partnership based on mutual interests, security cooperation, and rules-based international order.
