New Delhi : The Indian Naval Sail Training Ship INS Sudarshini made a ceremonial entry into the Port of New York and New Jersey, marking its participation in major international maritime celebrations, including the United States International Naval Review 250 and Sail4th 250 held on 4 July in New York.
The three-masted barque represented India on the global stage during the Parade of Sail on the Hudson River, where it stood out prominently as a symbol of India’s rich maritime heritage. Flying the national tricolour, the vessel drew attention among participating ships from multiple nations, highlighting India’s growing presence in international naval diplomacy and sail training traditions.
The ship’s ongoing voyage, part of “Lokayan 2026,” spans a 10-month transoceanic expedition designed to showcase the Indian Navy’s commitment to maritime outreach, training excellence, and global cooperation with partner navies. The mission underscores India’s emphasis on strengthening naval goodwill and enhancing interoperability through sustained international engagement.
Having already completed earlier segments of the SAIL 250 phase at ports such as Norfolk and Baltimore, INS Sudarshini continues its participation in the Sail4th 250 event series, further extending India’s maritime footprint across the Atlantic.
The deployment reflects the Indian Navy’s broader strategic outreach through sail training vessels, reinforcing diplomatic ties and promoting maritime heritage on prestigious international platforms.
