New Delhi : Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri on Thursday highlighted the significance of Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi’s ongoing official visit to India, describing it as a key step in further strengthening the India-Japan Special Strategic and Global Partnership.
Addressing a special media briefing on the visit, Misri said Prime Minister Takaichi arrived in New Delhi on Wednesday evening at the invitation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He noted that this is her first official visit to India since assuming office as Prime Minister of Japan.
The Foreign Secretary pointed out that although this is Prime Minister Takaichi’s maiden bilateral visit to India, the two leaders have already met twice in recent months—first on the sidelines of the G20 Summit in Johannesburg, South Africa, in November 2025, and later during the G7 Summit in France held last month.
Vikram Misri said the Japanese Prime Minister is accompanied by a high-level official delegation as well as a large and influential business delegation, reflecting the growing importance of the business-to-business (B2B) pillar in India-Japan relations.
He added that the strong participation of industry leaders from Japan underscores the shared commitment of both countries to expanding cooperation in trade, investment, technology, manufacturing and other priority sectors, while giving fresh momentum to the long-standing strategic and economic partnership between India and Japan.
