Union Minister Piyush Goyal, Saudi Counterpart Discuss Trade, Supply Chains Amid Regional Tensions

New Delhi : Union Minister of Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal held a virtual meeting with his Saudi Arabian counterpart Majid bin Abdullah Al Qasabi to discuss regional developments and avenues for strengthening bilateral economic ties.

During the interaction, Shri Goyal expressed optimism that the recently announced ceasefire would contribute to lasting peace and stability in the region. He praised the resilience and determination of the people of Saudi Arabia, particularly in maintaining supply chain continuity despite ongoing disruptions and volatility. He also strongly condemned attacks within the country amid the conflict and appreciated Saudi authorities for ensuring the safety and security of the Indian community.

Both leaders acknowledged the significant strain that the conflict has placed on regional supply chains and emphasised the importance of coordinated efforts to restore normalcy and facilitate smooth trade flows. Shri Goyal highlighted India’s proactive measures to support exports to Saudi Arabia and the wider Gulf region during this challenging period.

The ministers reaffirmed their shared commitment to enhancing bilateral trade and expressed confidence in achieving early progress in the proposed India–GCC Free Trade Agreement (FTA) negotiations, which are seen as a key step towards deeper economic integration.

The meeting concluded with both sides reiterating their resolve to further strengthen the India–Saudi Arabia economic partnership and explore new opportunities for collaboration in trade and commerce.
