New Delhi : Om Birla today urged lawmakers to rise above personal and political considerations and work with integrity to meet the expectations of the people, emphasising that governance must remain transparent, inclusive, and responsive.
Addressing the First CPA India Region Zone VII Conference in Goa, Birla said elected representatives are entrusted with translating public aspirations into concrete action while strengthening democratic institutions. He underlined that vision, dedication, and commitment to public welfare are essential for building a developed, equitable, and self-reliant nation.
Highlighting the role of young legislators, the Lok Sabha Speaker said they are key to realising the vision of Viksit Bharat by 2047. As emerging leaders, he noted, they must drive innovation, promote inclusive development, and reinforce democratic values, adding that their energy and commitment can significantly shape India’s future.
On the role of legislative institutions, Birla emphasised the need for healthy competition among state legislatures to enhance governance and public welfare. He also pointed out that increasing voter turnout since 1952 reflects the strength and vibrancy of India’s parliamentary democracy.
Stressing the importance of research and technology, he urged legislators to effectively use tools such as artificial intelligence while maintaining empathy and human sensitivity in addressing citizens’ concerns. He called for deeper engagement with the public and greater understanding of legislative procedures to ensure meaningful participation in policymaking.
Appreciating Goa for its tourism and cultural heritage, Birla highlighted the role of CPA Zone VII—comprising Maharashtra, Gujarat, and Goa—in promoting democratic excellence. He noted that despite varied challenges, these states can benefit from sharing best practices, particularly in coastal development.
Reaffirming the importance of collaboration and innovation, he said strong legislative institutions will play a crucial role in achieving sustained growth and the goal of a developed India.
