Visakhapatnam : In a moment that reflects India’s rising maritime strength and strategic confidence, the Indian Navy is set to commission its latest stealth frigate, Taragiri (F41)—a formidable addition that symbolizes the nation’s steady march towards complete naval self-reliance.

The commissioning ceremony, to be presided over by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, will not merely mark the induction of a warship, but celebrate a milestone in India’s indigenous defence manufacturing journey.

Part of the advanced Project 17A class, Taragiri emerges as more than a naval platform—it is a 6,670-tonne statement of engineering excellence and the spirit of Aatmanirbhar Bharat. Built by Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited, the warship represents a generational leap in design and capability, combining sleek architecture with reduced radar visibility, enabling it to operate as a near-invisible force in contested waters.

With over 75% indigenous content, Taragiri reflects the growing strength of India’s defence ecosystem. More than 200 MSMEs have contributed to its construction, reinforcing a supply chain that not only supports national security but also drives employment and technological innovation across the country.

Engineered for speed and endurance through its advanced CODOG propulsion system, the frigate is designed to excel across the spectrum of maritime operations. Its arsenal—featuring supersonic surface-to-surface missiles, medium-range air defence systems, and advanced anti-submarine warfare capabilities—is seamlessly integrated through a modern combat management system, enabling swift, precise responses in high-threat environments.

Yet, Taragiri is not defined by combat alone. Built for the complexities of today’s maritime landscape, it is equally equipped for diplomatic missions, humanitarian assistance, and disaster relief operations, reflecting the Indian Navy’s evolving role as both a strategic force and a global responder.

As the Indian Navy continues its transformation into a modern, credible, and self-reliant force, Taragiri stands as a powerful symbol of that journey—designed in India, built in India, and ready to safeguard India’s maritime interests.

A silent sentinel of the seas, Taragiri now prepares to take its place on the frontlines, guarding the nation’s blue frontiers and anchoring the vision of a strong, secure, and Viksit Bharat.
