Gurugram : The 8th District-Level Coordination Meeting for Gurugram was held on Thursday at the Mini Secretariat under the chairmanship of D. S. The meeting focused on strengthening sewerage infrastructure, improving water resource management, advancing key urban development projects, and ensuring strict environmental compliance through coordinated inter-departmental efforts.
The meeting was attended by P. C. Meena, CEO of the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA); Deputy Commissioner Ajay Kumar; Pradeep Dahiya, Commissioner of the Municipal Corporation Gurugram; Rajesh Mohan; along with senior officials from various departments.
Sewer Network to be Strengthened
Emphasising improvements in sewerage management, Mr. Dhesi directed that GMDA will take over the 69-km sewer network in Sectors 81–115 from the Haryana Shahari Vikas Pradhikaran (HSVP) to streamline operations and enhance maintenance efficiency. He also instructed HSVP and MCG to prepare plans for decentralised Sewage Treatment Plants (STPs) to enable local-level wastewater treatment and reduce pressure on centralised systems.
Additionally, joint inspections will be conducted to assess the condition of the existing 66.5-km sewer pipeline network, including desilting status and operational efficiency.
Crackdown on Groundwater Misuse
In line with directives of the National Green Tribunal (NGT), strict action will be taken against illegal groundwater extraction across the district. Authorities have been directed to identify and check illegal borewells and ensure the use of treated wastewater for non-potable purposes such as construction, horticulture and dust control.
Mr. Dhesi stressed the need for regular inspection drives and strict monitoring by the district administration to prevent misuse of drinking water and ensure compliance.
Infrastructure Projects Reviewed
The meeting also reviewed key projects under the ‘Haryana Vision 2047’ roadmap. Officials informed that a tender has been issued for the construction of an elevated corridor from Vatika Chowk to NH-48, while another tender for a flyover at Dadi Sati Chowk is expected soon.
The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) is in the process of appointing a consultant for a six-lane road project connecting Gurugram to Pataudi via Harsaru, Wazirpur and Jhajjar. To strengthen water supply infrastructure, GMDA has floated tenders to add 100 MLD capacity at Basai and Chandu Budhera water treatment plants.
Further, a 25 MW waste-to-energy plant is being planned in Manesar, while the Haryana State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation (HSIIDC) has prepared a DPR for a 20 MLD Common Effluent Treatment Plant.
Focus on Environment and Air Quality
Progress under the city’s action plan aligned with the Commission for Air Quality Management was also reviewed, focusing on dust control, waste management, mechanised cleaning and green space development. Departments were directed to intensify ground-level implementation and take strict action against violations. HSVP was also asked to expedite road works in Sector 29.
Boost to Urban Mobility
To strengthen public transport, the government has approved the procurement of 200 electric buses. Plans are also being prepared to develop new bus depots in Sector 65 and Manesar to meet growing urban mobility demands.
Call for Timely Execution
Chairing the meeting, Mr. Dhesi emphasised the need for stronger inter-departmental coordination and directed officials to complete projects within stipulated timelines. He warned that delays would be taken seriously and assured that progress would be closely monitored at the highest level.
