New Delhi / Aizawl : The Vice-President of India, Shri C. P. Radhakrishnan, addressed the 20th Convocation of Mizoram University in Aizawl today, congratulating the graduating students and encouraging them to contribute actively towards building a Viksit Bharat by 2047.
Admiring the picturesque campus, he described Mizoram University as one of the most beautiful in the country and a shining example of how education thrives when guided by peace and purpose.
Reflecting on the remarkable progress of the Northeast over the past decade, the Vice-President noted that under the leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, the region has become central to India’s development story. He highlighted major infrastructure and connectivity projects such as the newly inaugurated Bairabi–Sairang railway line, along with initiatives like UDAN and PM-DevINE, which are driving growth and expanding opportunities for the people.
Reiterating the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047, Shri Radhakrishnan urged young people to look beyond job-seeking and focus on innovation and entrepreneurship. He pointed to the Northeast’s vast potential in tourism, bamboo-based industries, organic farming, handicrafts, and digital services.
Expressing concern over the growing problem of drug abuse among youth, he appealed to students to stay away from narcotics and lead disciplined, purposeful lives. He also encouraged them to use technology and social media wisely, becoming “masters of technology, not its servants.”
Commending Mizoram’s natural beauty, high literacy rate, and deep-rooted tribal traditions, the Vice-President praised the state’s commitment to environmental protection. He lauded Mizoram University for its extensive use of solar energy and called on the youth to take the lead in promoting sustainability.
The event was graced by the Governor of Mizoram and Chief Rector of Mizoram University, General (Retd.) Vijay Kumar Singh; Chief Minister Shri Lalduhoma; Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dibakar Chandra Deka; faculty members; dignitaries; parents; and graduating students.
