Panchkula : The State Crime Record Bureau (SCRB), Haryana, has achieved significant success in solving two important criminal cases during the months of September and October 2025 by effectively using fingerprint science and the National Automated Fingerprint Identification System (NAFIS). This achievement reflects a major step in Haryana Police’s technology-driven investigation system and modern policing.

Murder Case Solved in Rohtak Using Chance Print Found at Crime Scene

The State Crime Record Bureau played a decisive role in solving a case registered at Sadar Police Station, Rohtak. Fingerprint experts carefully developed chance prints (fingerprint samples) obtained from pieces of a broken liquor bottle found at the scene of the incident.

On 15 June, Dayanand, son of Prahlad, submitted an application at Sadar Police Station, Rohtak, stating that his son Satish—who was the only brother of his four sisters—did not return home the previous night. Dayanand, along with his nephew, began searching for him and found Satish lying unconscious in the government hospital of the village. He was immediately taken to PGI Rohtak, where the doctors declared him dead.

Upon receiving the application at the police station, the investigating officer and the fingerprint lifting team reached the spot. During a detailed inspection by the fingerprint lifter, pieces of a broken liquor bottle were found. Considering the possibility of finding chance prints on these pieces, the fingerprint lifter developed chance prints using suitable powder. The obtained chance prints were expertly photographed and uploaded on NAFIS.

After in-depth and comparative analysis of all results received from NAFIS, the fingerprint expert matched the prints with a search slip (Naresh, son of Rajroop), a person with a prior criminal record. After the confirmation of this technical evidence, the accused was traced and the concerned Station House Officer was informed.

Accused Arrested in Panipat Theft Case With the Help of Chance Prints

SCRB also played an important role in identifying the accused and solving a case registered under FIR No. 571 dated 21.08.2025 (Sections 305, 331(4) BNS) at Chandni Bagh Police Station, Panipat.

On 21.08.2025, when Sonu, son of Hukm Chand, resident of Sector-12 Panipat, returned home at about 12:55 AM from his shop, he found the lock of his house broken and the belongings scattered. Sonu immediately went to the police station and reported that there had been a theft at his house, in which a pair of gold earrings, a gold ring, and approximately ₹60,000 in cash were missing.

As soon as the information was received, the investigating officer and the fingerprint lifter reached the scene. The fingerprint lifter carefully inspected the spot, and considering the possibility of chance prints on the iron almirah and locker, developed chance prints using suitable powder. These chance prints were photographed and uploaded on NAFIS.

After detailed and comparative analysis of all results from NAFIS, the fingerprint expert found a match with a search slip (Sunny, son of Vinod Lodha). Based on this identification, the accused was traced, and the Station House Officer, Chandni Bagh, Panipat, was immediately informed.

Revolutionary Change in Crime Investigation Through NAFIS

Both cases have proven that advanced fingerprint technology and the NAFIS system are emerging as game-changers for Haryana Police in crime investigation.
Through NAFIS, rapid identification of suspects has become possible, making the investigation process more scientific and result-oriented. Due to this technological efficiency, criminals are being quickly traced and brought under the ambit of law.

Technology-Centric Approach Making Haryana Police Number One

Haryana Police’s technology-based work culture has become its defining identity. The police force is not only cracking down on organized crime and drug trafficking but is also among the leading states in citizen-centric services.
In the monthly rankings released by the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB), Haryana Police has consistently secured top positions in the progress of the ‘Crime and Criminal Tracking Network and System’ (CCTNS), which stands as proof of its digital efficiency and commitment.

Balancing Modern Policing With a Human-Centric Approach

DGP Shri O.P. Singh has prioritized the use of technology while also emphasizing the human aspect of policing. Under his direction, campaigns such as ‘Operation Trackdown’ have proven extremely effective in the rapid arrest of criminals.
These efforts have not only strengthened law and order but have also enhanced public trust and the sense of security among citizens.
