New Delhi Ahmedabad : An Air India flight carrying 242 passengers and crew members, bound for London, crashed shortly after takeoff from Ahmedabad airport on Thursday afternoon. The Air India Boeing 787 Dreamliner went down around 2 PM in the Meghaninagar area, close to the city’s international airport. It fallen on a hostel of medical students. According to media reports more than hundred passengers died and several are injured sent to Ahmadabad Civil Hospital.
Air India’s Boeing 787 Dreamliner plane has crashed in Ahmedabad. There were 242 passengers on board the plane. Among them were 53 British, 7 Portuguese and one Canadian citizen.
Media report said that Indian Army has joined rescue operations at Ahmedabad at the plane crash site. Some media reports said that some of medical students and doctors also died due to this plane accident.
A local eyewitness of Ahmedabad said that It felt like an earthquake. He saw smoke everywhere and bodies all around.
Indian Army teams comprising approximately 130 personnel have been deployed to assist civil administration in the ongoing Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) efforts following the crash of an Air India flight near Ahmedabad.
The Indian Army’s response includes engineering teams with JCBs for debris clearance, medical teams comprising doctors and paramedics, Quick Action Teams (QATs), fire-fighting assets with fire extinguishers and water bowsers, and provost staff for site management.
The Military Hospital has also been placed on standby.
