CM hands over appointment letter to Borsing Bey as constable in Assam Police

Govt will continue to recognize honesty and bravery : CM

Dispur, June 26: Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma handed over appointment letter to Borsing Bey who set an example of honesty, integrity and bravery while performing his duty as Home Guard in a programme held at Janata Bhawan today. Noteworthy that Home Guard Borsing Bey during his posting at a check gate in Karbi Anglong on June 21 had refused a huge bribe from drug dealers and helped recover drugs valued at Rs. 12 crore from a night super bus.

Speaking on the occasion, Chief Minister Sarma said that the Assam government would continue to recognize honesty, integrity and bravery. The exemplary show of honesty and integrity of Borsing Bey would continue inspiring the rank and file of Assam Police; the Chief Minister said adding that the government decided to ceremonially hand over appointment letter to Bey with a view to send a positive message to the society.

Stating that the society has a moral duty to safeguard the younger generation from the menace of drugs, the Chief Minister informed that since coming to power, the present state government continued unrelenting fight against drugs dealers. He also said that due to zero tolerance attitude adopted by the government, in last 45 days drugs worth Rs. 135 crores were seized from different parts of the state.

The Chief Minister further said that Assam was earlier used as a transit route by drugs dealers; however, in course of time a big market was gradually developing. That is why the Assam government has given top priority to weed out the menace of drugs from the state so that the new generation could be saved from its ill effects.

Chief Minister Sarma also said that the state government has intensified its operation against cattle smuggling and crimes against women and children and successfully busted many rackets. The Chief Minister also informed that several initiatives for strengthening Assam Police as well as improving facilities for them has been initiated including medical reimbursement, annual health check, housing etc.

Chief Minister Sarma also asked Principal Secretary Home and DGP to explore the feasibility for promoting Home Guard personnel and Police constables who show exemplary performance on duty to the rank of Inspector of Police following due procedure. While Principal Secretary Home Neeraj Verma delivered the welcome speech, the programme was also addressed by DGP Bhaskarjyoti Mahanta.

Agriculture Minister Atul Bora, Handloom & Textiles Minister UG Brahma, Health Minister Keshab Mahanta, Revenue & Disaster Management Minister Jogen Mohan, Deputy Speaker of Assam Legislative Assembly Dr. Numol Momin, CEM of Karbi Anglong Autonomous.

Council Tuliram Ronghang, Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister Samir Kumar Sinha, Special DGP GP Singh, Director General of Home Guards AK Sinha Kashyap and other senior police officers were also present in the programme.
