Addressing the gathering, Amit Shah described the conferment of the President’s Colour as a recognition of six decades of service, commitment and sensitivity demonstrated by Chandigarh Police.

Paying tribute to police personnel who laid down their lives in the line of duty, he said their supreme sacrifice was a matter of pride for the entire police force. Chandigarh Police Ranks Second Nationally in Emergency Response

Highlighting the force’s operational efficiency, Amit Shah said Chandigarh Police currently holds the second position in the country in terms of prompt action on incidents and effective response time.

He noted that the induction of 141 new vehicles into the Chandigarh Police fleet would significantly enhance its operational capabilities and strengthen emergency response services.

Expressing confidence in the force’s future performance, the Home Minister said these modern vehicles and improved resources would help Chandigarh Police achieve the number one position nationally in emergency response time.

Home Minister Recalls Chandigarh Police’s Courage During Terrorism

Referring to Chandigarh’s reputation as one of India’s most systematically planned cities, situated at the foothills of the Shivalik mountain range, Amit Shah observed that the city was not untouched by the challenges posed by terrorism.

He recalled that during the difficult period of terrorism, Chandigarh Police displayed exceptional courage, bravery and determination in the discharge of its responsibilities.

Through its dedication, service and commitment to duty, the force played a significant role in maintaining security and peace in Chandigarh and its surrounding areas.

The Home Minister emphasised that the fundamental responsibility of the police is to provide citizens with accessible, convenient and efficient public services.

Appreciating Chandigarh Police’s adoption of digital initiatives, he said the force had introduced various mobile applications and technology-driven systems that enable citizens to access police services without necessarily having to visit police stations.

He congratulated Chandigarh Police for developing such citizen-friendly mechanisms and leveraging modern technology to improve public service delivery.

Efficient Traffic Management and Quick Emergency Response

Amit Shah also appreciated Chandigarh’s traffic management system, observing that despite being among the Indian cities with the highest number of vehicles per capita, the city has maintained smooth traffic movement.

Sharing his personal experience, he said he had visited Chandigarh both before and after becoming the Union Home Minister but had never encountered a traffic jam in the city.

He highlighted the force’s emergency response capabilities, stating that its Quick Response Team (QRT) has an average response time of just 10 minutes, while police personnel reach the incident site in approximately four minutes.

Describing these achievements as an encouraging example for police forces across other states, he said Chandigarh’s operational efficiency could serve as an inspiration for improving policing standards nationwide.

85% Conviction Rate Achieved in Just 140 Days

The Home Minister also highlighted Chandigarh’s progress in the implementation of the new criminal laws, stating that the city had achieved an impressive conviction rate of 85% within just 140 days.

He observed that effective implementation of the new criminal laws across the country could significantly improve the delivery of justice and reduce delays faced by citizens in the judicial process.

Amit Shah emphasised that the effective implementation of the new criminal justice framework would help ensure that people do not have to wait for prolonged periods to obtain justice.

President’s Colour: Recognition of Six Decades of Distinguished Service

The conferment of the President’s Colour marked a significant milestone in Chandigarh Police’s 60-year journey. The prestigious distinction recognises the force’s institutional commitment, professional excellence, courage and contribution to public service.

The Diamond Jubilee celebrations provided an occasion to acknowledge the sacrifices of police personnel, review the force’s achievements and reaffirm its commitment to modern, technology-enabled and citizen-centric policing.

The induction of 141 new vehicles, emphasis on faster emergency response, digital public services and improved criminal justice implementation reflect the force’s ongoing efforts to strengthen its operational capabilities.

The ceremony thus marked not only six decades of Chandigarh Police’s existence but also its continuing focus on public safety, professional policing, technological modernisation and efficient service delivery.
