New Delhi : President Droupadi Murmu graced the valedictory session of the two-day International Conference on “The Future of Environment and Climate Dynamics”, organised by the National Green Tribunal (NGT) at Vigyan Bhavan, New Delhi.
Addressing the gathering, the President said that climate change is creating imbalances at multiple levels of human existence. She noted that challenges such as biodiversity loss, water stress and land degradation are deeply interconnected with the broader impacts of climate change.
President Murmu underlined the need to strengthen climate resilience through people-centric and community-based adaptation approaches. She emphasised that traditional knowledge and practices can play an important role in developing effective and sustainable responses to environmental challenges.
She called for greater attention to approaches that place communities and people at the centre of climate adaptation efforts, while drawing upon knowledge and practices developed through generations.
Speaking on the occasion, Manohar Lal, Minister of Housing and Urban Affairs and Minister of Power, said that climate change is no longer merely a matter of concern but a subject that demands deep contemplation and collective action.
He said that when society moves beyond simply worrying about a problem and begins to reflect deeply on its causes and consequences, the path towards a solution begins to emerge.
Manohar Lal said that today, when the world speaks about the environment and climate change, the issue is no longer limited to the scientific domain but has become a question linked to the very existence of human civilisation.
He emphasised that climate change should not be viewed solely through a scientific lens. Instead, it needs to be understood in the context of history, culture, values and our way of life. According to him, a broader understanding of the relationship between human society and nature can help identify sustainable and practical solutions to environmental challenges.
The two-day conference brought together experts and stakeholders for discussions on the future of environmental protection, climate dynamics, resilience and sustainable development, with a focus on strengthening collective efforts to address the growing challenges posed by climate change.
