India-Kenya Defence Partnership Strengthened Through Military Cooperation

New Delhi : Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General NS Raja Subramani held discussions with Major General Bernard Waliaula, MGH CBS, Commander of the Kenya Air Force, during his official visit to India.

The discussions reaffirmed the strong and growing India-Kenya Defence Partnership, built on shared strategic interests and a common commitment to regional security and stability.

India and Kenya share longstanding diplomatic ties, with India establishing its diplomatic presence in Kenya soon after the country gained independence in 1963. Over the years, bilateral relations have evolved into a robust and multifaceted partnership, covering defence and security, trade and investment, health, development cooperation, culture and people-to-people ties. The two countries have also institutionalised their engagement through mechanisms such as the Joint Commission Meeting, Foreign Office Consultations, Joint Trade Committee and Joint Defence Cooperation Committee. Defence cooperation has expanded through regular institutional dialogue and exchanges. (Ministry of External Affairs)

During the meeting, General NS Raja Subramani and Major General Bernard Waliaula discussed ways to enhance military cooperation, interoperability and joint operational capabilities, with the aim of further strengthening defence ties between India and Kenya.

The engagement reflects the broader strategic importance both countries attach to regional security, maritime cooperation and stability in the Indian Ocean region.
