New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said that several MCD officials have been suspended with immediate effect following the tragic building collapse in Satya Niketan.
Those suspended include the MCD Deputy Commissioner, Executive Engineer, Superintending Engineer, Assistant Engineer and Junior Engineer. The owner of the building has also been arrested, the Chief Minister said.
Gupta said the Delhi Government has ordered the immediate sealing of buildings across the capital that have unauthorised fifth floors. Nearby paying guest (PG) accommodations and other buildings are also being subjected to thorough inspections, with strict action, including sealing, to be taken against those found violating building regulations.
“The Delhi Government has taken the matter with utmost seriousness. Anyone found guilty or responsible will not be spared,” the Chief Minister said.
Gupta added that the government is in continuous contact with the parents of the affected children and is making every possible effort to ensure they do not face any difficulties. She said the injured children are being provided with appropriate medical treatment.
The Chief Minister further announced that a structural audit of buildings across Delhi will be undertaken. Based on the findings, necessary action will be taken to ensure the safety of residents and occupants.
