India Hosts BRICS Summit During 2026 Chairship

The iBRICS gathering comes as India holds the BRICS Chairship in 2026 and prepares to host the 18th BRICS Summit in New Delhi on September 12–13. India assumed the chairship on January 1, 2026, for the fourth time, having previously chaired BRICS in 2012, 2016 and 2021.

India’s BRICS Chairship is guided by the theme “Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability”, reflecting Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of a people-centric approach rooted in the principle of “Humanity First.”

During its chairship, India has conducted more than 350 meetings and high-level engagements across over 25 cities, focusing on the three key pillars of BRICS cooperation: political and security, economic and financial, and cultural and people-to-people exchanges.

BRICS, originally comprising Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa, has expanded significantly in recent years. Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran and the UAE became full members in 2024, while Indonesia joined in 2025. A group of partner countries has also been brought into the BRICS framework. The year 2026 is particularly significant for BRICS as the grouping marks 20 years since its establishment. India’s chairship and the New Delhi summit are expected to focus on strengthening cooperation among member and partner countries while advancing practical initiatives in economic, financial, technological and development-oriented areas.

The inaugural iBRICS is expected to add an important investment and private-capital dimension to the wider BRICS discussions, connecting policymakers and capital providers with opportunities for infrastructure, energy and digital development across the grouping.
