Gurugram : Junior Engineer Manoj of the Municipal Corporation of Gurugram has been suspended with immediate effect over alleged negligence in duty during waterlogging conditions in Ward 14, triggered by rainfall on September 4. According to the suspension order, JE Manoj was posted in Ward 14 and had been tasked with monitoring the waterlogging situation and ensuring timely deployment of necessary machinery, staff, and de-watering arrangements.
Phone switched off, no response during emergency
The order, issued by Municipal Commissioner Pradeep Dahiya, states that Manoj’s mobile phone was found switched off during the rain and waterlogging, and no response or assistance was received from him. It also came to light that he had left headquarters/his station without prior permission — a lapse considered a serious matter, as it hampered timely action during an emergency situation.
Suspended pending departmental inquiry
Citing the Haryana Civil Services (Punishment and Appeal) Rules, 2016, the Municipal Commissioner has suspended Manoj with immediate effect, pending departmental proceedings. During the suspension period, his headquarters has been fixed at the office of the Executive Officer, Municipal Council Sohna, and he has been directed to report there immediately.
The Commissioner made clear that negligence of duty during emergency situations will not be tolerated, and that accountability of officers and staff will be strictly enforced.
