Meeting with Vice Chancellors of nine state universities stresses industry-ready education, global collaborations and student entrepreneurship
New Delhi : Delhi Lieutenant Governor Taranjit Singh Sandhu chaired a review meeting with the Vice Chancellors of Delhi’s nine state universities, focusing on strengthening higher education as a pathway to skills, income generation and greater career opportunities for students.
During the meeting, the LG emphasised the need to align university education more closely with the requirements of industry and the evolving job market, ensuring that students graduate with practical, industry-ready and employable skills.
Focus on Global Partnerships and Delhi-Centric Research
Sandhu called for greater emphasis on international collaborations between Delhi’s universities and leading global institutions. He also encouraged universities to promote research focused on Delhi-specific challenges, enabling academic institutions to contribute directly to solving issues faced by the national capital.
He stressed that research and innovation should have a stronger connection with real-world requirements and generate solutions that can benefit society and the economy.
Mentorship, Civic Engagement and Startups
The LG also called for stronger mentorship programmes and student engagement initiatives across universities.
He emphasised greater participation of students in NCC and NSS, particularly in civic activities and emergency-response efforts, so that higher education also contributes to developing responsible and socially conscious citizens.
Support for student-led startups and entrepreneurship was another key area discussed. Universities were encouraged to create stronger ecosystems to help young innovators convert ideas into viable enterprises.
Improving NAAC and NIRF Readiness
Sandhu also stressed the need for universities to strengthen their preparedness for NAAC accreditation and NIRF rankings, with emphasis on academic quality, research, infrastructure, innovation and institutional performance.
The meeting underlined the importance of making Delhi’s state universities more competitive, responsive and closely connected with both industry and society.
The LG said that empowering Delhi’s youth with quality education, relevant skills, entrepreneurial opportunities and civic responsibility would be crucial to the capital’s development journey.
