New Delhi: The Indian Army organised the PNG Transition Webinar-2026 at the Manekshaw Centre, Delhi Cantonment, as part of efforts to accelerate the adoption of Piped Natural Gas (PNG) across feasible Army establishments.
The webinar brought together key stakeholders from the Indian Army, government agencies, Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board (PNGRB), Defence Estates Organisation, Military Engineer Services (MES) and City Gas Distribution (CGD) entities.
The discussions focused on creating a coordinated and structured approach for transitioning suitable Army establishments from conventional fuels to PNG, with emphasis on operational efficiency, better utilisation of resources and progressive expansion.
A key highlight of the event was the release of the Indian Army PNG Guide, which provides a common framework and standardised approach for Army formations and establishments undertaking the transition to PNG.
As part of the initiative, 41 Army Stations are planned to be converted to PNG during Financial Year 2026–27. The phased programme is aimed at expanding the use of cleaner and more efficient natural gas infrastructure wherever technically and operationally feasible.
The initiative brings together the Army and multiple civilian stakeholders, including regulatory authorities and CGD companies, to address issues related to infrastructure, implementation, coordination and efficient utilisation of PNG systems.
The transition is also in line with India’s broader efforts to promote cleaner energy sources, energy efficiency and sustainable resource utilisation across government and public institutions.
The structured expansion of PNG facilities across Army stations is expected to improve fuel management while supporting the gradual adoption of more efficient energy solutions in military establishments.
In essence, the Indian Army’s PNG Transition Webinar-2026 marks an important step towards a structured and phased shift to piped natural gas, with 41 Army Stations targeted for conversion in FY 2026–27 and a focus on efficiency, sustainability and energy security.
