IFS Officer Trainees Meet President Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan, Get Message of “Rashtrahit Sarvopari”

New Delhi: Officer trainees of the Indian Foreign Service (IFS) called on President Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan, as part of their engagement before taking up diplomatic assignments.

Addressing the trainees, President Murmu said that they would represent not only the Government of India but also the country’s 1.4 billion citizens, along with their hopes and aspirations. She also highlighted the responsibility of Indian diplomats to reflect India’s values, diversity and interests in their engagement with the international community.

The President said India’s engagement with the world should remain aligned with the country’s national interests, guided by the principle of “Rashtrahit Sarvopari”, or national interest above all.

She urged the young diplomats to approach their duties with professionalism, cultural awareness, adaptability and integrity. She also emphasised the importance of effective communication and a clear understanding of India’s priorities in conducting diplomatic relations.

President Murmu called upon the officer trainees to ensure that Indian Missions abroad remain accessible and responsive to Indian nationals, particularly during emergencies and other times of need. She also underlined the role of Indian Missions in supporting the Indian diaspora and strengthening people-to-people ties.

Interactions between the President and IFS officer trainees provide an opportunity to underline the responsibilities associated with representing India abroad and the importance of placing citizens’ welfare and national interests at the centre of diplomatic service.
